Where Good Ideas Come From – Steven Johnson

Lead: 7 Excite: 220 Amaze: 7 Direct: 13

An interesting long trailer at 4:07. Using time-lapse video and animation to introduce this nonfiction book. I find this trailer long but it does hold my interest. Very interesting use of a whiteboard.

  • Time-lapse video of drawing on a white board
  • Length: 4:05 but holds your interest
  • Strong narrative

Footnote: I found the concept of the trailer trailer appealing so I bought and read the book. My career has been inventing and could relate to some of the stories. Like the trailer I found the book interesting but long. The book is a collection of stories about inventions to illustrate the concepts shown in the trailer.

Huffington post: Slick animation. High quality images. Nice voice over. Good balance between informing the viewer about the book without giving too much away … Well, we liked it. Do you?

Publisher Intro

An exploration of environments that lead to breakthrough innovation, in science, technology, business, and the arts. I conceived it as the closing book in a trilogy on innovative thinking, after Ghost Map and Invention.
